PLG’s Remote Delivery offer
In response to the Coronavirus Pandemic which has swept through the world during 2020, PLG have reviewed and updated our remote learning offer to allow our learners with the best opportunities to make progress should they not be able to work or access their place of work for learning sessions.
Remote delivery arrangements
All apprentices have access to our virtual learning environment (VLE) which hosts our online learning resources and teaching & learning sessions are completed online via video conferencing software. Our assessment strategies have been adapted, allowing learners to make progress towards their learning goals whilst being away from the workplace or being unable to attend their learning sessions.
Learning sessions are scheduled in the usual way and agreed with the apprentice and employer in advance to ensure all parties are up to date with progression and expectations of self-managed learning or study which needs to be completed in between sessions.
Learner expectations & support
Expectations of learners throughout this challenging time are in line with the apprenticeship agreement and commitment statement. The expectations of learners to complete work in between sessions to allow for learning targets to be attained remain in place, as does the commitment from apprentices to attend learning sessions punctually and inform PLG of any issues in being able to complete work.
Our experiences throughout the last year has allowed us to recognise more than ever that all apprentices have different needs. These could be technology needs or pastoral needs. We are able to support individual apprentices to explore options to address connectivity issues and design specific support strategies for learners that need these to address pastoral issues.
Differentiated and flexible approaches to teaching, learning and assessment allows to ensure we are able to support our learners in the best possible way. Treating each of our learners differently and adapting to their individual needs allows all of our learners including those with SEND requirements to achieve their learning aspirations and progression goals.
Specialist work-based programmes
PLG specialise in the delivery of hospitality apprenticeship programmes. This sector and its skills have taken a big hit throughout the pandemic. PLG have developed flexible approaches, utilising technology and online learning platforms to allow apprentices to make consistent progression even when they are not able to practice these skills in a commercial setting.
